Blackall Heartland Festival

On Sunday 25th May 2014 the Shockwave team were in Blackall participating in the annual Heartland Festival.

A feature of the Heartland Festival is the Blue Light Billy cart races in which individuals make and design their billy cart and compete against others in their age group. For the first time Shockwave entered a billy cart, the ‘Shockmobile’. Great fun was had by everyone but unfortunately we did not make it to the finals.

We also had a workshop site running in the Shockwave tent for young people to participate in with various arts and craft. These included pet rock making / inspirational stones, jewellery making, loom band making, clay sculptures, and a drawing and painting area. Young people had lots of fun joining in with these activities.

We were also lucky to have Ebonee Christopher, a young hip hop dancer from Longreach, come to Blackall to teach young people the Shockwave Flashmob. The Flashmob theme for this year was Thriller and it was great to see young people working hard to learn the moves.
